UFC 221: Romero vs. Rockhold staff picks and predictions

Publié par

The Bloody Elbow team has made its own forecasts for Saturday’s UFC 221 card in Perth, Australia. Opinion is fairly divided on who will win the primary event between Luke Rockhold and Yoel Romero, which is fitting considering the 50-50 character of this one. Our thoughts are also divided on the co-main between Mark Hunt and Curtis Blaydes. As for the rest of the card? Yeah… completely unanimous.
Note: Predictions are entered during the week and gathered the day prior to the event. Explanations behind each pick are not required and a few authors elect to not do so for their own reasons. By way of instance, if Phil Mackenzie entered all his predictions on Wednesday without incorporating in any explanations, he has no idea if he’s likely to be the only one siding with a single fighter for any given fight.
Luke Rockhold vs. Yoel Romero
Anton Tabuena: Romero doesn’t have MMA wrestling that is certainly on par with his qualifications, and if this does go to the ground, that will be Rockhold’s entire world. So this essentially boils down to Romero landing a bomb, or him worked by the technical and complete fighter. Romero has power and he can certainly put out his lights at any point, but I simply think Rockhold is your far superior MMA fighter in general. Unless Rockhold begins slow and gets cluttered, he should be able to control space, land those big kicks, and maybe finish this on the floor. Luke Rockhold by TKO.
Mookie Alexander: Selfishly, I want Rockhold to acquire because it is just more interesting to watch him against Robert Whittaker than Whittaker vs. Romero two, a fight I think Whittaker wins much more than that he did the first time. Romero isn’t a man who completes people immediately, but the mere truth he’s so harmful from the later rounds poses a different challenge for Luke. That said, I hope Rockhold’s cardio to maintain up at a five-rounder, he has a more varied floor game than Romero (zero livelihood submission attempts), and that I believe his cries will be crucial to effecting Romero’s gas tank as the fight progresses. You constantly need to be concerned about Romero’s KO power, in addition to the possibility for him to place Rockhold on his spine and deliver some punishment, but that I believe Rockhold gets the win in a tough, highly competitive competition. Luke Rockhold by conclusion.
